About A Step Beyond
We are a newly established company with decades of experience in care and support. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for those we support, as well as for our employees. Our passionate team provides innovative support to individuals with complex needs, helping them enrich their lives.
Empowering Individuals to Excel
We aim to be the specialist provider of choice, enriching the lives and futures of those we support. We serve as a bridge to help individuals understand their identity, explore their skills, and maximise opportunities for a successful, meaningful, and happy life. Our commitment is to offer consistent support to all, including individuals with complex needs who have faced challenges in settling due to insufficient support in the past.
Our Philosophy of Care
At A Step Beyond, we start from a simple belief: a learning disability or autism diagnosis describes one part of a person, never the whole of them. Everyone we support has a life they want to lead, and our job is to make that life possible. We then strive to go further and ensure each individual enjoys the best quality of life possible.
That means we don't build services around what's convenient for us. We build them around the individual. We take time to understand what a good day looks like for each person, what matters to them, who matters to them, and what they want their future to hold. Then we put the right support in place to get them there. No more than they need, and never less.
We support people to take positive risks, make their own decisions, and grow in confidence. Progress isn't measured in paperwork; it's measured in the person cooking a meal for the first time, holding down a job, keeping a friendship, or simply feeling safe and settled in a home that's genuinely theirs.
Our staff are trained, supported, and matched carefully to the people they work with, because consistency and trust are what make everything else possible.
What Makes Us Stand Out
Nationally recognised for complex care. We were named a finalist for the Complex Care at Home Award at the 2026 Great British Care Awards. This is recognition that we support people with genuinely complex needs to live in their own homes, not in institutional settings.
We specialise, we don't generalise. Learning disability and autism support is what we do, not one line on a longer list. Our staff, our training, and our environments are built around it.
Behavioural expertise within our own team. We employ a Peripatetic Behavioural Specialist who works directly across our services, so positive behaviour support isn't outsourced or bought in when things go wrong. It is built into daily practice.
Homes, not placements. Our properties across South East are real homes in real communities, chosen for the people who live in them.
Consistent staffing. We match support workers to individuals carefully and invest in keeping them, because relationships, not rotas, are what change outcomes.
Directly accessible leadership. Commissioners, families, and the people we support can pick up the phone and reach a Manager. Decisions get made quickly and problems get owned.
A
commitment to progression. Every person we support has goals recorded, reviewed, and worked towards. Where someone can move towards greater independence, we actively support that, even where it means they eventually need less from us.
Stars of Social Care Awards Finalist
A Step Beyond was named a finalist in the Complex Care at Home Award category at the 2026 Stars of Social Care Awards. The category recognises providers supporting people with complex needs to live well in their own homes rather than in institutional settings, which is precisely what we exist to do. The recognition belongs to our support teams, whose daily work with the people we support is what earned it.

Positive Behaviour Support
Positive Behaviour Support is a specialised approach that provides individualised interventions to people exhibiting challenging behaviours.
How it works
Our process involves collecting data to understand the reasons behind problematic behaviours. By learning why individuals engage in these behaviours, we develop strategies to prevent their recurrence.

Enforcing Positive Habits:
We aim to resolve problematic behaviour by teaching individuals new skills and positive habits. Positive Behaviour Support is a holistic approach considering all factors impacting a person and their behaviour. We address various problematic behaviours such as:
Aggression
Destructiveness
Social withdrawal
Tantrums
We are committed to making a positive impact on the lives of those we support and their families, creating a more inclusive and supportive community for all.
